The National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) is a system for preventing torture and ill-treatment in places of detentionwith regard to inmates through an independent body of the National Center for the Prevention of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (hereinafter referred to as the National Center).
